POLICE are investigating after a driver was found dead in his bus in Ashton.
A passer-by found the 50-year-old man with his head wedged between the doors of the vehicle at around 7pm last night (Wednesday).
Emergency services were immediately informed but the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
A police spokesman said: “At around 7pm on Wednesday, October 9, Greater Manchester Police were called to Lockett Road in Ashton-in-Makerfield, Wigan, following reports of a concern for welfare for the driver of a bus.
“Officers attended and the driver, a 50-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.
“An investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death has been launched and the coroner has been informed.
“The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have also been informed and are making joint inquiries alongside GMP.”
A post mortem was set to take place at 11am this morning (Thursday).
