EIGHT people will stand trial at the crown court accused of violent disorder following a serious pub brawl two days before Christmas.
The charges relate to an incident at a pub in Atherton when two groups of festive party-goers clashed violently, causing other drinkers to fear for their safety.
A total of 10 people appeared at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court in connection with the disorder, with eight defendants, five from Leigh and three from Atherton, entering no plea and being sent to the crown court for trial.
Christopher Doyle, 47, and Elaine Doyle, 50, both of Burrington Drive, Damien Doyle, 28, of Chaucer Grove, Martin Doyle, 30, of Runfield Close, Keisha Hurrell, 24, of Shelley Street, David Taylor, 22, Paul Taylor, 58, and Peter Taylor, 27, all of Douglas Street, will now appear at Liverpool Crown Court on December 2.
A further two defendants, Christopher Doyle, 27, of Shelley Street, and Mathew Scotson, 24, of Clovelly Avenue, pleaded guilty to the charge of violent disorder.
They will now appear before a judge at Liverpool Crown Court on August 29, but may have to wait until the other proceedings have finished to be sentenced.
