But last night, firefighters were called to another fire there - the fifth in nine days.

Crews from Wigan, Hindley and Atherton fire stations went shortly after 9.30pm when wood was set alight in a building on the site.

Tony Callaghan, watch manager at Wigan fire station, said: “As we turned up there, about seven youths on the top floor were clear on the fire escape and ran off into the mill.

“Somebody is going to have a serious accident one day.

“It’s not just the holes in the floor, it’s the timber and debris that’s everywhere. All they need to do is fall over and bang their head on something and they could be really hurt.”
