FIREFIGHTERS have tackled a fire in a disused building in Lower Ince.

Crews were called to Laburnum Avenue at around 3pm today (Sunday).

Four fire engines and an aerial appliance have been in attendance and have managed to contain the fire.

Work to bring the fire under control is ongoing throughout the night,

Station Manager Ben Levy, who is in charge of the incident, said: “The fire is in the roof space and was well alight when we arrived.

“Crews are at either side of the fire and have stopped it from spreading which will limit the damage.

“There is some smoke coming from the scene, so we would encourage people living nearby to keep their doors and windows closed as a precaution.”

Crews are expected to be at the scene for some time as they extinguish the fire.
