STAFF of a Wigan newsagents were left traumatised after gun-wielding robbers made off with cash, booze and cigarettes .

Detectives are now appealing for witnesses to the terrifying evening raid on Friday, June 13 at the Thorougoods store on Old Road in Ashton.

Just after 8pm, two masked men barged into the shop, pointing a handgun at the two female staff on duty.

One demanded cash while the other shouted for a bottle of vodka and cigarettes.

The pair of offenders collected their loot and left the store with the ordeal lasting a matter of minutes.

Det Con Rachel Forsythe from Wigan CID said: “These two men burst into a shop carrying a handgun, they pointed it in the face of the two members of staff who have been left traumatised by this experience.

“The offenders got away with a small amount of cash and we are appealing to anyone who has any information about the robbery or who may know who is responsible to call us as soon as possible.”

One of the offenders is described as white, more than 5ft 8in tall with a slim build, in his late teens to early 20s and spoke with a local 
accent.

He was wearing a black scarf or balaclava covering his face and a cream or beige hoodie and dark trousers.

The other is described as white, about 5ft 6in tall, younger than the first offender and was wearing a black scarf covering his face and a black hooded top and black bottoms.

Anyone with any information about the incident that occurred between 8.05 and 8.15pm is asked to call police on 101 or independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
