Heartbroken family make stolen bike plea

Stephen Owens and his stolen bike

Stephen Owens and his stolen bike

AN IMPASSIONED appeal has been made after a Wigan motorcyclist’s prized bike was stolen from outside his work.

Two opportunist thieves took Stephen Owen’s £3,000 Daelim Roadwin 250cc from outside of his workplace while at a staff meeting at the town centre’s Roller Rink.

It occurred just four months after the 44-year-old purchased the bike, having juggled two jobs as a landscape gardener and at the Roller Rink to save up for.

His wife Sue, 32, said: “I couldn’t repeat what I would want to say to the two men who did it.

“My husband is absolutely heartbroken – he loved that bike! He was so upset and we phoned the police straight away.

“We were given false hope when somebody claimed that they had spotted in Bryn the bike but nothing developed since then. We haven’t got a lot and he has been working around the clock with two jobs to save up for it.

“Who do they think they are that they think they have the right to steal off others.”

Bosses at Wigan’s Roller Rink in Swan Meadow Road have since launched a campaign to help find Stephen’s bike.

The CCTV footage has been scoured by staff and the offenders have been caught on camera.

The couple, from Hindley Green, are appealing to anybody who may have information on the whereabouts of the bike or indeed the theft itself which took place on the early evening of Tuesday, March 5.

Sue said that having a motorbike has always been a passion of Stephen’s.

She added: “He has always been into bikes but this was the first time he had bought one. He had a scooter before that and then just went through a mid-life crisis and decided to work all the hours just to finally afford a motorbike.

“And it isn’t just Stephen who is upset, my 10-year-old daughter, Sara, loved that bike. She cried her eyes out and is absolutely gutted. She would always go on with her dad, we even bought her the full leather kit for it.”

If anybody has any information about the bike then please contact Sue by on Twitter, @Susan_Owens.

Those with details can also contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
