Hip break youth sentence delay

THE sentencing of a Wigan youth who knocked over a woman, breaking her hip, has been adjourned because a pre-sentence report was unavailable.

Liverpool Crown Court heard that Stefan Cunliffe had gone to a probation office for an interview for the report but when told that the officer was unavailable he was “rude” and also said he would not return.

Judge Mark Brown told 18-year-old Cunliffe that he would remand him in custody to ensure a report is prepared and also to allow time for an up-to-date medical report on the victim, 63-year-old Christine Dagnall, to be produced.

Cunliffe, of Kendal Road, Ince, has pleaded guilty to causing her grievous bodily harm in Duke Street, Platt Bridge, on October 1 last year. He was remanded until March 25.
