A WIGAN village is set for unprecedented growth after huge new housing schemes were given the go-ahead.
Months of residents’ meetings, furious debate, claim and counter-claim in Standish came to a head last night when the planning committee gave the green light to 600 homes at the Bloor Homes site on Pepper Lane plus the Wainhomes land off Cat Ith Window...despite 400 objections.
Both were effectively the result of the Government’s inspector ripping up the council Core Strategy housing rules for Standish and insisting that the ward take a greater share of the shortfall in the borough’s housing supply he perceived over the next five years.
Protestors claimed that the new estate road linking the two developments to Pepper Lane and Almond Brook Road was “designing in a rat run” and are now threatening a Judicial Review.
