A POPULAR community rugby club has been gutted after a fire ripped through its premises.

The blaze has destroyed half the building belonging to Ashton Bears Amateur Rugby League Football Club, in Low Bank Road, damaging the lounge area and kitchen.

The changing rooms are also heavily charred and deemed unusable.
