Investigations into behaviour of two councillors dropped by police

POLICE have axed criminal probes into the behaviour of two of Wigan Council’s leading opposition councillors.

Suspended Lib Dem Robert Bleakley was arrested as part of an investigation into misuse of public office after admitting fraudulently altering a council email to suggest officers favoured ruling Labour.

And Hindley Green independent Bob Brierley spoke to police voluntarily under caution after the council complained about his alleged “violent manner towards and harassment of” chief executive Donna Hall. But officers have revealed today that both inquiries have now been discontinued without charge.
