A MOTORIST was fortunate to escape with minor injuries after his car ended up on its side on top of a garden wall.

Emergency services were called to Liverpool Road, in Platt Bridge, near the junction with Moss Lane at around 2am on Saturday.

They found a Suzuki Vitara had ploughed through the railings at the mini roundabout after approaching the area from the direction of Hindley, coming to rest on its side on top of the wall in front of a house.

Fire crews from Wigan and Hindley stations used a board and lines to remove the driver from the car, which suffered heavy damage to its front and side. The driver complained of neck pain and was taken by ambulance to Wigan Infirmary for a check-up, but was later discharged.

The occupants of the house were unhurt.
