A FATHER was attacked as he walked with his five-year-old son in Wigan.

Just after midnight on Friday 24 January 2014, the 38-year-old was walking along Dicconson Terrace, Swinley when he was approached by three men.

He was struck in the face and attacked by the group, knocking him unconscious.

After the men left, the boy alerted family friends of the attack and they called police.

One man is described as being white, in his mid 20s, of medium build, 5ft 9in tall, had short blonde hair and grazes on his forehead. He was wearing a beige coat and spoke with a local accent.

A second man is described as being white, in his mid 20s, of slim build, around 5ft 11in tall, with short hair and spoke with a local accent.

The third man was white, in his mid 20s and spoke with a local accent.

Detective Sergeant Peter Carletti based at Wigan Police Station said: “This was clearly a terrifying attack to both the victim and his son. The man was worried his child may have been injured and a five-year-old boy could only watch as his dad was repeatedly kicked and knocked unconscious.

“This was an unprovoked and savage attack that has left him with a fractured cheekbone. Fortunately, the boy was not physically injured.

“We are determined to catch those who are responsible for this crime but we need the publics help in coming forward. If you witnessed the assault or believe you know who may be responsible, I would ask you to contact police.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 7967 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
