Prosecuting, Ann Deacon said: “When police arrived the defendant was shouting and screaming at a female. The officer tried to remove the defendant but he shouted ‘I’m not being arrested’. The defendant continued to struggle and elbowed PC Sutch in the face causing reddening to her cheekbone.”

A member of the public had to help detain him. The court heard the couple began to argue when she refused to give him some of the money she was keeping safe for him.

Peter Moran, defending, said: “A member of the public called the matter in and two passing police officers jumped out of their van and detained him simply to find out what had happened. He didn’t want to be detained simply because he was having an argument with his girlfriend. He accepts that during the struggle he elbows the officer causing the reddening to her cheekbone.”

Halliwell was fined £110 and ordered to pay court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £30.
