No extra patient care

WIGAN Infirmary bosses have denied press reports it is to take in kidney patients from Bolton.

The renal unit at the Royal Bolton Hospital is to undergo emergency repairs meaning its patients would have to travel across the region for their treatment.

The specialist unit at the hospital treats around 76 patients per year and the work is expected to take a month to complete when it starts in February.

It has been reported that as a result, there would be more pressure on the same unit at Wigan. Patients are expected to travel to other neighbouring units such as Rochdale.

But bosses at Wigan Infirmary have reassured its patients that their treatment won’t be affected as they will not be taking in any more patients from Bolton.

A spokesman for Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust said: “WWL will not be receiving any of the patients in question.”
