NYE stabbing: Two arrested

A WIGAN man has undergone emergency surgery after he was knifed in the stomach outside his home in a festive horror attack.

The victim, who has not been named, suffered the deep wound in a savage assault at 11.30pm on New Year’s Eve.

As fireworks detonated overhead and locals saw in 2013, police were taping off a row of terraced homes in City Road, Pemberton, and carrying out house-to-house inquiries.

Revellers today described how they returned home from parties to be confronted by a hive of emergency service activity.

And a young woman who answered the door at the house where the incident took place said: “I don’t really want to talk about it at the moment.

“All I can say is that he has had an operation and he seems to be over the worse.”

Two men have since been arrested on suspicion of assault and questioned by officers.
