THE town’s first ever 10k road race has formally been announced.

The inaugural and spectacular run will take place around Wigan’s streets on Sunday September 8.

It has been organised by the charity Joining Jack in conjunction with Wigan Council and Wigan Leisure Culture Trust.

Local folk are being urged to sign up for or contribute in any other way towards creating a major and regular event for the whole town.

Joining Jack, set up by former Warriors star Andy Johnson and wife Alex, funds research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a condition from which their five-year-old son Jack suffers.

And despite the charity’s being one of the main organisers, they are opening up the race to other causes too.
