TRAFFIC police are appealing for witnesses after a 20-year-old man was left with serious injuries after a car smash.
The pedestrian was hit by a Mercedes E320 travelling westbound on the East Lancashire Road at Astley at about 2.40am on Saturday.
The man suffered a serious head injury and a broken leg and was taken to Salford Royal Hospital. His injuries are described as serious but not life-threatening.
The driver of the Mercedes, a 38-year-old man from Leigh, was uninjured in the collision.
Traffic officers closed the westbound A580 from the junction with Higher Green Lane at Astley while they investigated the scene. The road was reopened shortly after 5am.
