POLICE are appealing for witnesses after an arson attack on a Wigan home.
At around 10.30pm on Monday March 31, an accelerant was thrown on the door of the house on Silverdale Avenue, Higher Ince and it burst into flames.
The arsonist was then seen to walk off.
While damage was caused the victim escaped unscathed.
PC Sean Robinson said: “This was a deliberate act and it is only after the homeowner noticed the fire underneath the door that he realised he was in danger. I would ask anyone who may have seen someone acting in a suspicious manner or leaving the house at around the same time as the fire, to contact us.”
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed their attendance but added that, fortunately, the fire did not take hold.
Locals reported seeing emergency services arriving at the scene of the fire and hearing the commotion.
Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 7124 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
