WIGANERS are invited to spend a night under the stars to help a homeless charity.
The Brick is organising its annual Wigan StreetSleep on March 28 from 10pm until 6am.
The event aims to raise awareness of the plight of people living on the streets and also gain extra funds for the centre’s services.
Brick founder Trish Green said: “We did this last year in January in heavy snow and it was still a huge success. Everybody who took part really enjoyed it and are looking forward to doing it again.
“Wigan Youth Voice is helping to set it up with us and they will design posters for us. They will also help to arrange activities throughout the night, such as quizzes, and we hope to get a band playing to keep people entertained.
“We are doing this to raise awareness of what it is like to be street homeless. It will also help us raise funds to enable us to continue doing what we are doing to support vulnerable people who are struggling to find accommodation .
“Last year we raised £18,000 and 72 people took part. This time we hope to raise more and we have space for 125. We encourage people to come and take part to help us raise funds for a good cause and also to be aware of what other people go through.”
To take part, fill out a registration form by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Participants must be 16 or over. The location is yet to be announced. The Brick is also looking for donations of sleeping bags and warm clothing which can be dropped off at the centre at 10 Arcade Street, Wigan.
