STAFF at a Winstanley newsagents were threatened by armed robbers during a terrifying raid.

The robbers struck at around 5am on Saturday morning at Martin McColl newsagents at Winstanley Shopping Precinct on Holmes House Avenue.

As a female staff member opened the front shutters of the shop to take in the morning newspapers she was confronted by three white men in dark hooded tops carrying crowbars.

The offenders forced her back into the shop where she and another staff member were violently threatened several times.

The three men stole a large quantity of cash and cigarettes before they made off.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “We are appealing for anybody with any information to come forward.”

Staff members at Martin McColl’s refused to comment on the incident.

Anyone with information should contact Wigan CID on 0161 856 5307
