The Good Trader Scheme members, who mainly work in the home improvement sector, were judged on the quality and volume of customer feedback generated in the last year.

The scheme is run by the council’s trading standards team who ensure all its 200-plus members maintain the high standards expected.

The five 2016 winners on the night were:

* Good trader of the year award Wigan: Advanced Fencing & Gates Limited;

Karl Battersby, director of economy and environment, said: “It is so important to recognise the traders who work hard to provide a high quality service to residents. The Good Trader scheme is a great resource which supports our local businesses, whilst at the same time drives rogue traders out of town.

“Congratulations to all the traders who are part of it and to the five winners on the night who have provided exceptional service. I would recommend all of them to borough residents, particularly as we want the public to support our local businesses – a key part of The Deal to make our borough a place where businesses can thrive.”
