MOTORISTS are facing long delays after part of the southbound carriageway of the M6 was blocked by a collision.
Police found the van on the hard shoulder and the other two vehicles still in the outside lane, requiring it to be shut, while firefighters also attended the scene.
One person was taken to hospital by paramedics as a precaution but there were no serious injuries.
The Highways Agency warned that the entire southbound carriageway would need to be shut briefly to move the Nissan and the trailer safely on to the hard shoulder.
The incident has caused lengthy tailbacks, with traffic moving very slowly in the inside two lanes past the site of the collision and queues stretching as far north as the service station at Charnock Richard.
A spokesman for the Highways Agency expected the carriageway to be cleared by early evening.
