THEY said its demise was imminent. But the former Wigan Pier Night Spot is still stubbornly standing.
The process to bring down the old club began a month ago amid predictions that the Pottery Road premises would be but a memory within a few days. But it hasn’t worked out that way.
The council confirmed today, however, that everything will be going ahead as planned.
A spokesman said the delay has been down to the need to undertake stabilisation works to the adjacent property in advance of the demolition. Work is under way on the inside of the building though and it is all expected to be completed “in due course.”
Once the building has been brought down, the council plans to construct a community garden on the site. There is also the hope that, in time, a marina will also be built besides the canal providing the space for overnight mooring for barges.
In its latter years the club was dogged by complaints of noise from the increasing number of folk living nearby.
