Plans to build and In ‘N’ Out car servicing centre on a piece of unused land off Robin Park Road, behind Smyths and Sports Direct have been submitted to Wigan Council.

The centre would be a “fast-fit option” for vehicle service, MOTs and repairs which runs on 30 minute appointment slots and gives the customer the option to wait in an on-site lounge area.

The unit will include an MOT bay, service area, associated office, customer lounge and storage areas as well as a number of car parking spaces for both staff and customers.

Documents submitted with the application read: “The customer arrives and the vehicle is brought straight into the workshop.

“The customer then generally waits whilst the service or MOT is being carried out although it is anticipated that they will use other facilities in proximity such as Sports Direct, Pizza Hut, Argos and others.

“Upon completion of the relevant work, the vehicle would be parked outside whilst the customer settles their invoice and then leaves.

“Occasionally, vehicles in for more comprehensive repairs are left on site but these vehicles would be inside the workshop whilst work is completed and collected shortly afterwards.”

Access to the new centre will be from the existing turning off Robin Park Road.

The application concludes: “The appearance and form has been developed not only to complement the existing nearby retail and commercial environment but as a coherent layout within its own context.

“This will bring in new business to the area, enhance the available stock and add to the existing employment area.

“The proposal is developing vacant, unused land to create additional business opportunities.

“It is hoped that the proposal will help to promote further business within Robin Retail Park.

“It is also hoped that the project will enhance the portfolio of business and uses that the area as a whole has to offer, further enhancing and strengthening Wigan’s commercial and economic viability and sustainability.”

It is the latest in a string of applications which will transform the retail park.
