Air ambulance landing on the A49 at Wigan for a victim of a road crash

Air ambulance landing on the A49 at Wigan for a victim of a road crash

A WOMAN was taken to hospital in an air ambulance following a road traffic collision in Wigan town centre on Sunday afternoon.

Greater Manchester Police said the female pedestrian suffered non-serious injuries.

A section of the A49/Riverway was closed in both directions from around 2pm between Crompton Street and Northway.

The woman was taken to Salford Royal Hospital as a precaution, GMP added.

Witnesses say emergency services were called to the scene shortly after lunch.

Serious traffic delays built up as police closed roads and directed motorists away from the scene to allow the air ambulance to land.
