Woman jogger died after being hit by car

A woman who died after being hit by a car was out jogging at the time, police have confirmed.

Merseyside Police confirmed that the 47-year-old woman from Billinge died after being struck by a Peugeot 406 at the junction of Birchley Road and Martindale Road in Billinge, at around 12.25pm on Tuesday.

Despite the efforts of paramedics her injuries proved fatal.

Tributes have been paid to the woman, whose identity has not yet been confirmed, on social media.

Gem Hope said: “RIP, my three kids are so upset been crying since school finished. You will be very missed, thoughts are with your family.”

Nicola Ashcroft wrote: “So so sad! RIP, you will be missed by everyone at school. Thoughts are with family at this time.”

Suzanne Catchpole said: “RIP you had a massive effect on many people. You will be sadly missed.”

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident but officers are appealing for anyone who was in the area and may have seen any part of the incident to contact Merseyside Police’s Roads Policing Unit on 0151 777 5747.
