A man in his 40s has died after an accident at a factory in Newton-le-Willows on Monday morning.
Detectives from St Helens CID and officials from the Health and Safety Executive are currently at the site and have launched a joint investigation.
Police were called to the industrial unit on Suez Street in Newton-le-Willows at around 11.15am.
A force spokesman said officers found a man in his 40s who had died after sustaining injuries while operating machinery.
The spokesman added: “The site and a small nunber of roads around it have been cordoned off while a joint investigation by St Helens CID and the Health and Safety Executive gets underway.
“The man’s family are aware of his death and a police family liaison officer has been appointed to provide support to them at this difficult time.
“No-one else was injured during the incident.”
Officers were first alerted by co-workers at the factory yesterday morning.
Officials from the Health and Safety Executive are expected to make further announcements on the incident today.
It is believed the man was working on machinery early on Monday morning when the incident took place.
