Lauren Byrom, from Garswood, pleaded guilty at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court after being pulled over by the police in the early hours.

The court was told Byrom, of Victoria Road, started driving the Vauxhall Adam at around 5am on May 15 in Ashton with two other women.

The 21-year-old was spotted by a concerned member of the public and when she was tested at the roadside her reading was 54 microgrammes of alcohol per 100ml of breath.

Defending, Melissa Fagan told the court Byrom had two glasses of wine after meeting up with friends and having a meal the previous evening, thinking this would make her safe to drive.

The court heard there was no suggestion of bad or erratic driving on Byrom’s part and she had consumed a relatively small amount of alcohol, putting her only slightly over the limit.

Ms Fagan said she left at the end of the evening to get medication for a stomach problem.

The magistrates banned her from driving for a year but said she could get that reduced by three months if she completes a rehabilitation course before December 25.

She was also fined £265 and ordered to pay £85 in costs and a £20 victim’s surcharge.
