MOTORISTS in Wigan watched in horror as a lorry careered off a road and overturned onto a roundabout in rush hour traffic.
Drivers narrowly avoided being crushed by the wagon as it veered off the M6 sliproad and onto the roundabout at Warrington Road, Marus Bridge, at around 9.10am yesterday.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene after the lorry driver, who has not yet been named, lay trapped inside the vehicle.
Firefighters managed to cut him free and he was treated at the scene by paramedics.
Police said the driver suffered a cut his head and concussion.
However his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
One lane of the sliproad travelling onto the M6 was closed while the wreckage was cleared, causing heavy tailbacks.
No one else was hurt in the crash.
The lorry was carrying goods for grocery wholesalers Palmer and Harvey.
