A JEALOUS man attacked a love rival in front of his ex-partner’s child and a social worker, a court heard.

David Rawson, 27, pleaded guilty to two counts of assault and three of criminal damage against Susan Quirk and Craig Roper.

I’m now very scared about what is going to happen. He threatened to kill me if I ever went to the police

Statement read in court

Wigan magistrates heard the defendant attended the Wigan home of Susie Callan, from whom he had split only days earlier but with whom he had a child, and became angry after hearing she had been spending time with her previous ex Mr Roper.

In a rage, he pushed her mum Ms Quirk out of the way, breaking her necklace. He then went to Mr Roper, who himself has a two-year-old child with Ms Callan and had brought her to the house for a meeting with social services, and punched him to the head in front of the toddler.

Prosecuting, Tess Kenyon said the victim, who suffered no visible injuries, said the stress from the incident cost him his job. Ms Callan said her realtionship with Rawson had been violent. A statement read: “I’m now very scared about what is going to happen. He threatened to kill me if I ever went to the police.”

Defending, James Towey said Rawson was at the address to return his daughter when a neighbour told him Mr Roper had stayed over. He said: “One reason for the break-up is because he felt something was going on between his ex-partner and Mr Roper.”

Rawson, of Fairclough Street, Bolton, was given a 12-month community order, must pay £200 costs, £225 compensation to Mr Roper and £50 to Ms Quirk plus a £60 victim surcharge; and was given a restraining order against both victims.
