FIVE people were taken to Wigan Infirmary after an 11-car pile up on the M6 yesterday morning.
It happened near junction 29 at 1.39 am on the northbound carriageway close.
As a result, the motorway was closed in both directions from juncton 27, causing problems for people travelling north from the borough.
The southbound carriageway was also closed to help emergency vehicles transport people to hospital.
The collision, which included four HGVs, resulted in one person being trapped and having to be released by firefighters.
A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said none of the injuries were “life-threatening or life changing.”
Both sections of the motorway were closed for several hours before being re-opened earlier this morning.
