WIGAN’S motorways ground to a standstill yesterday morning after a huge pothole appeared overnight.
Disruption on the M6 southbound continued throughout the day as one lane was shut for drivers’ safety until the Highways Agency could carry out permanent repairs.
The problem, just before junction 27 at the Gathurst viaduct, was reported at 7.15am and emergency temporary repairs were made soon after.
Two lanes were closed from 10pm while permanent repairs were carried out.
Speaking yesterday, Neil Sterio from the Highways Agency, said: “A large pothole was reported to us this morning which caused congestion during rush hour.
“We patched the hole up and will make permanent repairs this evening.”
