Makers of Uncle Joe’s issue recall after bits of metal found in sweets

Fans of Uncle Joe’s are being urged to avoid a certain type of sweets as they may contain pieces of metal.

Wigan-based company William Santus and Co has released a warning relating to 35g bags of liquorice and aniseed extra strong mints as it is believed they could contain small pieces of metal.

Anyone who has bought this product, with the expiry day of June 30 2018, should return the product immediately for a refund.

Customers are being advised not to eat the sweets.

The company has also reported that no other products have been affected.

A message sent via the Food Standards Agency gives the following advice: “If you have bought the above product do not eat it. Instead, return it to William Santus & Co Ltd, The Toffee Works, Dorning Street, Wigan, WN1 1HE. The company will replace the product and reimburse any postage costs.”
