A MOTORCYCLIST was airlifted to hospital following a serious crash on a busy Wigan road.

At around 12.30pm on Friday Greater Manchester Police (GMP) asked for help from the North West Air Ambulance Service after a 35-year-old man came off his bike after a collision with a car near Warrington Lane, Scholes.

Officers said the vehicle initially crashed into a bus stop but passengers were unhurt.

The motorcyclist suffered a severe leg injury and was assessed and treated by the aircrew doctor before being taken to Wythenshawe Hospital.
