A BRAVE Wiganer fought off an intruder to protect his young family during an attempted burglary.

It happened at the man’s home on Moxon Way in Ashton-in-Makerfield at around 6pm on Tuesday.

The man, who is 34, was at home with his two young children - a six-year-old boy and a three-year-old girl - and two other children aged eight and seven-years-old who are friends of the family.

The intruder, who was wearing dark clothing and a scarf to cover his face, came in through the unlocked front door demanding cash.

Fearing for the safety of his partner and children, the man confronted the intruder at the living room door and a scuffle broke out, during which the would-be thief tried to attack the homeowner but he managed to block the punches.

The offender then picked up a child’s scooter, ran outside and used the toy to smash the living room window before fleeing empty-handed.
