POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man was forced into a van and assaulted in Wigan.

At around 7.40pm on Friday (Sept 11), the 38-year-old victim was walking on Millgate when a small grey van pulled up alongside him. He was forced into the vehicle before he was assaulted.

The victim was later released on Horrobin Lane in Rivington.

Police have launched an investigation and arrested a 53-year-old man and 27-year-old man.

Both have now been bailed until 25 November 2015 pending further inquiries.

Detective Inspector Martin Reddington said: “We are currently investigating why the victim has been targeted in such a way. He is currently in hospital suffering from serious injuries to his hand and face.

“From what we have been told, we believe he was seen speaking to two men in a van on Wallgate, outside the Last Orders pub. We also believe someone walked past the van just before the man was dragged inside. If you think you saw something suspicious in the town centre area or on Horrobin Lane, I would appeal for you to come forward.”
