A MAN has appeared before Wigan justices accused of trying to stab a Wigan schoolgirl to death.
Lawrence Wood faces a charge of attempted murder after a 12-year-old, who cannot be identified, was knifed twice in the back.
The attack took place in daylight on Wednesday afternoon in Stranraer Road, Marsh Green, and the victim has undergone an operation after she suffered a punctured lung.
Her injuries are not said to be life-threatening, and her condition is described as stable.
Wood, of Lincoln Place, Marsh Green, 31, was remanded in custody at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court yesterday after being committed to Liverpool Crown Court.
His first appearance before a judge will take place on February 28.
