A YOUNG Wigan man accused of killing a middle-aged man has appeared for the first time at Liverpool Crown Court.
David Horner, 23, of Scholes, Scholes, denied murdering Francis Farrell following an incident in Frog Lane, Wigan, in June.
He pleaded guilty to an alternative charge of unlawfully killing him, but his plea was not accepted by the prosecution.
Mr Farrell, 56, of Beech Hill, was found with a head injury at around 4.10am on June 17, shortly after he had been captured on CCTV walking along the same road.
He lost his battle for life three days later in Wigan Infirmary on June 20. The court heard that the fatal head injury occurred after his head struck the ground.
Horner, who appeared via video link from Walton Prison, was further remanded in custody to await his trial, expected to last three days, beginning on December 10.
