A MAN has appeared in court after he stole and crashed a Mercedes, causing extensive damage to the vehicle and a bus shelter.

Lee Tymon, 30, of Ridyard Street, Worsley Hall, admitted aggravated vehicle taking, leaving the scene of an accident, driving without a licence and driving without insurance when he appeared at Wigan Magistrates’ Court.

He has also been charged with an unrelated breach of court bail.

He was released on conditional bail and will return to the court on September 22 for a pre-sentence report.

The incident occurred in the early hours of June 27, when a stolen Mercedes vehicle left the carriageway on Ormskirk Road, Pemberton, and bounced off the wall of Your Choice fruit and veg store.

It then shattered a bus shelter, smashed into the shutters of Bargain Booze before colliding with a wall. Both the passenger and driver were taken to hospital.
