A MAN has been sentenced after admitting using threatening words and assaulting a police officer.
Neil Colburn of Prestwich Street, Atherton pleaded guilty to the offences on February 6 at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court. Prosecuting Katie Beattie said PC Jackson along with a colleague attended Leigh bus station at around 5.45pm to reports of a man using abusive words likely to cause distress to a young boy.
Upon arrival they found Coburn, 26, shouting and swearing, the defendant ignored pleas from officers to calm down and they attempted to restrain him.
In the struggle, Colburn lashed out and kicked PC Jackson in the shin. As a result she suffered soreness and bruising. He had been drinking since 2pm.
Defending Colin Rawson said the defendant had been diagnosed with a learning issue. He was given a six week community order and ordered to pay £55 fine, £60 victim surcharge, £50 compensation and £80 costs.
