A PERVERT has been jailed for 10 years for a string of child sex offences.

Brian Pendlebury was convicted by a jury of seven offences involving five female victims ranging from 12 to 20 years old.

Liverpool Crown Court heard that the offences spanned six years ending last year, and took place after he had been drinking and smoking cannabis.

Jailing him, Judge John Roberts said he had taken advantage of the vulnerability of the victims. He added: “Only a significant custodial sentence can be justified.”

He said that Pendlebury had become obsessed with one of the girls, who now avoids contact with older men, as does another of his victims. Others have been left feeling guilty and depressed.

Pendlebury, of Leigh Road, had also faced similar offences involving six other girls, but he was cleared by the jury of 15 offences, and they could not agree on nine others which have now been ordered to lie on the file.

The judge ordered him to sign on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.

Andrew Ford, prosecuting, said the offences of which 47-year-old Pendlebury was convicted involved assault by penetration, sexual activity with a child and sexual assault.

Hunter Gray, defending, said that references describe Pendlebury “as a lovely man when sober” and even one of his victims said he was “very kind and caring.”

He said that Pendlebury had never intended to cause harm to them.
