A MAN suffered a serious head injury following an assault in Orrell in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Shortly after 2.15am yesterday (Wednesday), police were called to Church Drive by paramedics who were treating a man with a head injury.
When officers attended, they found a 37-year-old man had suffered a serious head wound after being assaulted.
The man was taken to hospital with an extensive head injury, but following treatment, is now recovering and is in a stable condition.
It is believed the 37-year-old man was attacked as he walked home from a friend’s house nearby, sometime between 1.30am and 2.15am.
Detective Sergeant Nigel Rigby based at Wigan police station said: “Officers are working to establish who attacked this man, leaving him lying in a hospital bed with a nasty head injury.
“We are appealing for any witnesses, or anyone who knows who is responsible for this attack, to come forward and tell police what they know.
