Man stabbed in ‘brutal attack’

A 37-year-old man has been arrested after a man was stabbed in Wigan.

At around 11am today (Thursday) police were called to reports that a man had been stabbed on Liverpool Road, Platt Bridge.

I saw the police pick up the knife and watched them bandage him up around the waist. He also had a head injury

Eyewitness

A man was detained at the scene by an off duty police officer who was in the area at the time, before on duty officers attended and arrested the man on suspicion of section 18 assault.

He remains in police custody for questioning.

A man in his 50s has been taken to hospital where he is in a stable condition and is receiving treatment for his injuries.

Detective Sergeant Lee Shaw of GMP’s Wigan borough, said: “This is a brutal attack that has happened in broad daylight with no concern for the victim or those who have witnessed the incident.

“I am urging anyone with information to come forward and help us with our enquiries.

“If you witnessed the incident, please get in touch with police as soon as possible. This is one of the main roads between Hindley and Platt Bridge, which would have had a lot of people in the area around at the time.”
