POLICE are hunting a gang who robbed a Wigan hairdresser’s shop.
Wearing masks, the four thugs struck shortly before closing time at Salon 174 at Billinge.
They burst into the Up Holland Road business at around 6.50pm on Friday December 23 threatening the female members of staff and demanding that they hand over cash.
The terrified employees retreated into a kitchen area at the rear of the premises.
Meanwhile the intruders conducted a search of the salon and stole a quantity of money from the till.
They then fled the shop. It is not known at this stage in which direction they made their getaway nor whether they had a vehicle.
The victims were left shaken by their ordeal but suffered no physical injuries.
Police, who have been house-t-house inquiries, today also appealed for information about the raid. They say only a relatively small amount of money was taken.
The robbers are only described as four males wearing dark coloured clothing and with their faces covered. There is no suggestion that any weapons were used in the crime.
A police spokesman said: “This must have been a very frightening experience for the staff involved.
“We would like to speak to anyone who knows who was responsible or has any details about the incident. Perhaps they saw suspicious activity in the Up Holland Road area before the robbery at 6.50pm or the offenders making their getaway afterwards.”
Anyone with information is asked to rin Wigan CID on 0161 856 5307 or the freephone Crimestoppers line anonymously on 0800 555111.
