MCFLY kicked off the Wigan Life Tuned-In Concerts in spectacular fashion last night.

Fans of the chart topping pop rockers from across the borough, across the country and even across the world came to Wigan’s Haigh Hall country park to watch the lads play a set featuring the biggest hits from their vast back catalogue.

Some fans had even gone as far as camping overnight at Haigh Hall to make sure they were the first ones at the gates of the concert site, which opened at 6pm.

In the afternoon there had been huge traffic delays around the venue.

A spokesman for Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust, the organisers of the concerts, said: “This concert series marks a fantastic opportunity for the people of Wigan and Leigh to celebrate and appreciate a wide variety of musical talent.

“This is a fantastic venue and for this series of gigs we have secured some fantastic acts.

“We would urge the people of Wigan and Leigh not to miss out and come down and enjoy the party.”

Singer and guitarist Tom Fletcher told the crowd: “This is our first show of 2010 and the last one we’ll be playing with our current setlist.

“You guys are the last ones to see and hear it.”

It is believed between 2,500 and 3,000 people attended the opening night of the series, which continues tonight with Alesha Dixon and N-Dubz.
