THE fund-raising efforts of two Wigan pals which began after their brushes with cancer a decade ago are still going strong.

And Christine Bullock and Sue Green are holding an anniversary money-spinner at St Jude’s Social Club in Worsley Mesnes on March 21 for the Wigan Infirmary cancer department’s breast unit.

Christine, 61, of Abram, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003 and was successfully treated at both Wigan and The Christie. Friend Sue, 63, from Shevington, had undergone the same treatment a few years earlier and they decided to set up Mr Harland’s Breast Cancer Fund, named after the cancer consultant at the unit.

The first concert in 2004 involved the band featuring Sue’s husband Malcolm and the event at St Jude’s will be the 11th in 10 years. Gran Christine said: “We are about £3,000 short of raising a total of £30,000, so we want a big push for our 10th anniversary.”

The 7.30pm concert includes duos Junction 27, and Malcolm Green and Colin Benson, as well as singer Jayce. There will also be stand-up sit down bingo and auctions. Tickets are £5 and are available from the club in Poolstock Lane.
