A MIRACLE tot who weighed just 1lb at birth has defied the odds to make it home.
Ella-Jo Johnson came into the world an incredible 14 weeks before her due date and is the lightest Wigan baby to be born and survive in more than a quarter of a century.
This week she was settling into her Orrell home after spending five long months in hospital undergoing specialist care. Mum, Toni Johnson, 29, from Orrell said that she is relieved her angel is out after five months of fighting for her life.
The 29-year-old said: “We are so lucky to have her here, she is a healthy, happy, 7lb baby now!
“At one point doctors told us that she wasn’t going to make it and it broke my heart.
“I managed to hold it together for all the time she was in hospital because my mothering instincts just kicked in. But at the point the doctors told me she might not survive I just broke down in tears. I couldn’t imagine losing her.
“I sometimes still lie in bed at night thinking that I just can’t believe she’s still here with us. I remember seeing her for the first time and I didn’t believe that she’d survive - it’s a miracle.”
