MAJOR Incident Team detectives were yesterday drafted in to investigate the tragic death of Francis Farrell.

The 56-year-old died in hospital on Wednesday, just days after he was found unconscious on Frog Lane in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police say they are still no wiser as to how Mr Farrell obtained the serious head injuries he had suffered and have released CCTV images in a bid to jog the memories of anyone who was in the area.

The Beech Hill man had left the Wiend Bar at 3.50am on Sunday morning.

He was picked up on camera walking down Market Place and Hallgate before reaching Frog Lane.

A number of cars are seen passing him before CCTV loses him at around 3.57am.

Just 18 minutes later, a passer-by found Mr Farrell senseless and bleeding in the street.

A 35-year-old man was arrested earlier this week on suspicion of assault but had been bailed until July 19 pending further inquiries.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Wigan CID on 0161 856 7149 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
