A CONVICTED sex offender was caught with child porn on his mobile, a court heard.

A judge told Wigan man Anthony Brown that viewing such images encourages the on-going trade.

“Sometimes people regard these offences as victimless. Far from it. Children subjected to this sort of abuse by being photographed in many cases bear the emotional scars for the rest of their lives, said Judge Brian Lewis.

He told the 44-year-old: “I am satisfied you are a fairly lonely and isolated individual particularly after the recent death of your father so I am dealing with you sympathetically.

“But bear in mind any breach of the orders will mean you will come back before me and go straight to prison.”

He sentenced him to three years’ supervision with six months’ attendance on an alcohol treatment programme. He ordered him to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for five years and made an indefinite Sexual Offences Prevention Order which bans him from being alone with boys under 16 and having anyone under 18 in his premises. Judge Lewis also banned him from having a mobile phone which has camera, video and internet access facilities.

Liverpool Crown Court heard that Brown, who appeared in the dock with a black eye, has been re-housed after being attacked after word of the offences came to light.

Brown, formerly of Marsh Green, Marsh Green, pleaded guilty to three charges of possessing a total of 38 indecent photographs on April 19 last year.

The images, which included a naked child rowing a boat and three naked boys riding a pedal cycle, were in the two least serious categories, said Harry Pepper, prosecuting.

They were found when police raided his home in relation to a more serious allegation and seized his mobile. He was not charged in relation to the other suspected matter.

The court heard he has previous convictions including indecently assaulting a boy and breaching a Sex Offenders Order.

Steven Swift, defending, said, “It is clear this is a man who is in need of assistance. The images were downloaded along with other material.”
