A town centre supermarket will shut in a week’s time.
Sunday will be the last day of trading for Morrisons in the The Galleries after the chain announced the closure of seven unprofitable shops in January.
The announcement was made on the same day that the retail giant released its Christmas trading figures which showed an increase in sales.
A Morrisons spokesman said: “Following a consultation process with colleagues, we regret to say that we are closing our Wigan store. This process has been extremely difficult.
“We have looked at a whole range of options to make the store viable but none gave us confidence that we could run it successfully. Our aim is to reduce any job losses, where possible, by finding roles elsewhere in our organisation.”
